  1. Dude, your commentary on Adele’s audience was ageist as fuck. I know it was supposed to be interpreted that you were sad about the old crowd because of how Adele would be viewed by the industry. But that doesn’t fly because the people who put her video together know the business, too. If that crowd looked bad, they would have edited in shots of young people, in the crowd, or re shot the video. It sounded like you were actually sad that the crowd wasn’t filled with 20 something. “I know plenty of people MY AGE that like Adele.” As if that is what makes her legit.

And if your statement was true, where the fuck were your peers? We all know middle aged acts can’t sustain record sales (Train, Michael Bolton, Sting)

But a little part of me hopes that what you say is true. Even though I was defending her audience, I won’t defend Adele. The sooner this bitch is off the radio, the better. Her voice and music annoy me. As for the video proving that she is a good stage performer: Huh? We knew Adele could sing, so that is a given. But all she does is stand in one place and move her arms in sweeping gestures. Anyone can do that. She’s still a bit green, her eyes dart back and forth.

    • Yeah but not everyone can sing mate. How is it her voice and music annoy you again? I am so sick of people bashing talented acts like Adele just because of either constant radio play (makes a change from constant Lil Wayne if you ask me) or either she just ‘annoys’ you with no legitimate reasons to back that claim up. You take what you can get these days and if you want someone who flails about the stage like a retard, I’m sure you can get your fix through Miley Cyrus.

      • (Elliot is talking to me, Mues)

And Elliot, go screw off. I didn’t get into why Adele annoys me because that wasn’t the point of my post.

She’s a young woman with a whole album dissing a guy and feeling sorry about a relationship. She couldn’t have been more than 20 when that relationship went down, and I have to hear you eviscerate a guy because he was doing what young people do: get in and out of relationships?

Then there is the witch wail of “Rolling In the Deep” in which the back ground chants sound like the soundtrack from Omen. Fuck that sound.

Don’t equate me to a “miley Cyrus fan” just because i don’t like the one act that
can sing. The most exciting artists can’t sing, or have a great voice for their genre but aren’t considered the best singers: The Sex Pistols, Parliament Funkadelic (George Clinton), Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Madonna, Prince, Eminem, B.I.G. etc.

And don’t give me that ‘Take what you can get shit’. You need voice and the rest of the package. I don’t like her melancholy music. It’s as depressing as Nirvana to me. People like her and will always like Adele. i don’t.

There are plenty of great new acts: Foster The People, Florence and the Machine. They are not some young annoying chick.

    • OK I’ll admit, that rant was a bit misinformed an ad hominem, especially the Miley Cyrus part so I do take that back. Of course I know about acts that don’t have the best voice and yet have an engaging stage presence or a charisma that is engaging more than anything. My point was that Adele sings with a passion while still keeping in tune whereas a lot of other acts today focus on either acting like they’re larger than life whn they clearly don’t have that personality to back it up (Flo Rida, Wiz Khalifa) or are just so out-of-tune they have audio enhancements to do their job for them (Kesha, Katy Perry or T-Pain).
The whole ‘take what you can get’ thing is probably a weak argument on the basis that the pop charts shouldn’t in any way be taken as a musical measuring stick, but when you see acts like Adele, Florence and the Machine, Lupe Fiasco and Foster The People in the pop charts, it sort of shows progress in a way and shows the general public aren’t as gullible for a dance beat as some give them credit for.

  2. Loved your detailed commentaries on all the songs! I used to watch your stuff on youtube all the time until you stop making full length vids! I really enjoy your opinions, great overview! Keep up with the great reviews.

  3. Actually a musician that appeals to the “Susan Boyle” crowd has the potential to make a lot of sales. One day at work I saw a Susan Boyle Christmas CD that had something written one it about her having the best selling album in the world or something like that. it didn’t make much sense to me when I first read it but then when I thought about it I figured it was because people who are my mom’s age are a lot less computer savvy than the younger crowd and therefore will actually buy the albums rather than downloading them for free. artists who appeal to that age group would also – in theory – have a lot more staying power than some run of the mill pop star who audience will forget about them once the new big thing comes along. I suspect this is one of the reason why it seems like a lot of country music stars hang around longer than most pop stars, because the audience is a lot more mature than the top 40 crowd.

i’m not arguing with your point Mues because i don’t think record execs really see the value in seeking out someone to appeal exclusively to that age group (possibly because they won’t eat up everything that is shoved down their throats by the media the way fans of Justin Bieber and Katy Perry will) I’m just saying that the potential is there.

      • But Mues specifically dissed it here, because he didn’t even let it play 4 seconds so he could show the title of the song and artist. Or say “Number 9 is LMFAO, which I already reviewed in a previous episode, so moving on…”

He dissed it the way he did (by playing a half second snippet w/ no mention of the artist) because it is horrible.
